Meet me on the side of a highway, in an area that looks like a desert. I met Deanna on this hot, early summer day and photographed her and her kids. Below is what we made. Moody, honest motherhood portraits are my favourite kind of portraits to make. I met her knowing that I was only going to use one kind of lens – my tilt-shift – and I was going to let it do it’s thing.
Deanna is so relaxed with her kids, and they are so free spirited. Whether it is sitting in the dry dirt in a shadow, drawing “mama” in the dirt, or pulling clover apart and making a pile of its flowers.
