Sarah, Scott, and Kiddos

My Journal

Adventuring down to the Walterdale Bridge here in Edmonton on a beautiful May weekend day was such a fun time. I really love when during a family portrait session, we just venture around with snacks and make art. I also love letting go of any perfection. What I want to capture the most during a family session, is the reality of your family and what makes them unique and special. What we consider as “imperfection” during a session is usually what makes a portrait visually interesting. Weather it’s a tear on a cheek, dirty finger nails, missing teeth. I want to embrace these things as it’s what you’ll want to look back on in 5, 10, 15, or more years. What topped off this session, was heading back home with you and making s’mores and hopping on a skateboard. This is my absolute favourite. When a family just lets me be a part-time fly-on-the-wall, and a part-time participant. So the take away from this post is, embrace the “imperfections” of your family and kids. Get dirty, let the tantrums happen, take a break and eat a snack, let the kids change into clothes that they feel like themselves in. Because this is really what matters.
